Japandroids- “Sex and Dying in High Society” (X Cover)
This is how one correctly covers a song. In this case, the cover is of this song.
When I was given iTunes cards for Christmas, I was quick to buy up all of the Japandroids’ singles that each contained a new song and a cover. For some stupid reason I forgot to get them earlier. I was particularly excited about this one, the noisy pop duo paying homage to an essential LA punk band. They kept the two-person vocal styling intact as I hoped and kept the song’s social criticism just as biting with their delivery.
The A-Side, “Younger Us” is a gem too. I don’t drink, but I appreciate the lyric’s description of wanting to get back an attitude lost somewhere along the way. You can download it here from Pitchfork.
In short, I’m really loving this band and want another LP to follow up the excellent Post-Nothing. My fingers are crossed in hope that I won’t have to wait too long.
